The Ghost in the Office
Its official. Our office building is haunted. Reports of footsteps, furniture being dragged across the open landing, sightings of a vision in white her tresses flowing black n long, taps running by themselves... the stories are enough to give you goosebumps and tingle your spine.
It all began on a wednesday morning when the head honcho himself sent out an email to all staff asking about the local ghost! It seemed frivolous, and amusing and many a skeptic decidedly ignored the mail- yours truly included. About a half hour later i was called in to discuss a few matters, and in the midst of our discussion, Mr. L gets a 'You've Got Mail' notice. Its from a colleague S, in response to the ghostly email! We continue our meeting and at the close, he buzzes his secretary to ask her to bring S in. I rose from my chair only to be sat back down and be delighted with the tale.........
Our office is rather an old building, moderately renovated in the late 1990's to house a few 50 odd people. (Yeah pun intended!) And as parables go... the building stands on a grave... the truth of which is debatable. Many a guard has a story of a woman walking around the building with her hair undone gently blown by the breeze. It has been reported of late that the spirit is an Indian woman...Hmmm makes me wonder, if Noorie crossed the Indian Ocean just to get to this little island?
It all began that wednesday when the guard on duty stopped Mr. L, to give him a key he found in the parking lot. His night duty had been troubled, he had stood guard on the ground floor, and as the hours spread onto the wee morning hours he began to hear a sound coming from the landing. Much like heavy furniture being dragged around. Gathering his wits he climbed the stairs to investigate and as he reached the landing the noise stopped as abruptly as it had started. He swept the area to see what may have caused the din, only to find it bare of person or furniture. He climbed back down, settled into his corner and the din began again only much louder, and dissipated only as the rays of the early morning sun shone over the mountains!
He recounted the nights where he and his senior had both experienced the sensation of someone walking around, and the spine tingling fear they felt discovering nothing. Another sweeter story is of the female guard who on numerous occasions having dozed off, has been woken up from her sleep.
As one can imagine, the ghost in the office, was much debated and discussed. A priest has been brought in and we shall have a service soon, to put her to rest. And as I write this I cant help wonder about the truth of it all. Maybe she's there looking out at us, having a little laugh, as we labor the day away. Maybe she's sad looking for company... maybe she lost her lover... maybe this was her home... maybe....
